eolas ("OH-lass") is a high-energy trio playing the traditional music of the Celtic nations.  Pulling from the Irish, Scottish, French Canadian, East Coast and Breton traditions, their music will move your feet and your soul.

eolas is Amy O'Neill (Irish flute, bodhrán, step dance), Alice Boyle (fiddle, viola) and Andy Webster (guitar, vocals).

amy o'neill - Irish flute, bodhrán, step dance

Born and raised near London ON, Amy completed a music degree (classical flute) at the University of Western Ontario before being introduced to the world of Trad. While still keeping one foot firmly planted in the classical music world, her heart and soul belong to the traditional dance tunes and airs of the Ireland, Scotland and Brittany.

Equally at home in a rollicking pub session or playing piccolo in an orchestra, her ebullient personality comes through in her playing and makes her a favourite of audiences everywhere.

alice boyle - fiddle, viola

A native of Winnipeg, Alice began playing string instruments as a child and pursued a professional career as a violist for many years before making a dramatic shift into the world of fiddling.  Having left the classical world behind, Alice began playing fiddle music only five years ago while completing a PhD in biology at the University of Arizona.  She quickly embraced the new approaches, techniques, and above all, spirit of traditional Irish, Scottish, old-time, and contra-dance fiddle music.  She has been an active and central feature of sessions, festivals, dances, and bands in Tucson, Kansas, Colorado and London ever since.  The energy and joy that Alice infuses into each tune wins the hearts of audiences wherever she plays.

andy webster - guitar, bouzouki, vocals

An inspiring singer, songwriter and string player from Scotland, Andy Webster has been described as one of his “generation’s leading instrumentalists”. His take on old Scots traditional songs along with his self-penned numbers and instrumentals are a new and refreshing taste in the folk scene. Webster’s powerful and varied vocals, guitar and bouzouki playing has backed many leading acts including Dougie MacLean, Calasaig, award-winning harpist Phamie Gow, and the Finlay McDonald Band. He was a lead member of the multiaward winning, 7 piece Scottish band, Brolum, for 7 years until his move to Canada.

For many years, Webster’s music has led him to stages in France, Italy, Belgium, Estonia, the Netherlands, Denmark, Turkey, Russia, England, Wales, the USA and Canada. Highlights include multiple performances at Celtic Connections, Glasgow; the Festival Interceltique de Lorient,, Brittany; andrecording at Sun Studios, Memphis, Tennessee. His compositions have been selected for compilation albums across Europe and have seen much television
and radio play worldwide.
