ENSEMBLES

Two ensembles are currently being run at the Studio. A Senior group for more advanced players (RCM level VI-IX) and a Junior group for less experienced players (RCM II-IV). The Senior group meets for one hour a week, while the Junior group meets for 45-minute rehearsals.

DO I HAVE TO BE A CURRENT STUDENT WITH THE STUDIO?

Any flute student of any teacher is welcome to participate.

STUDENT AGE

Students of all ages are welcome. There has been interest expressed in an Adult Flute Ensemble. If you would be interested in joining such an ensemble, please e-mail the studio with your approximate playing level and availability. (Note: if you're not sure of your playing level, an audition can be arranged for placement purposes.)

MATERIALS

Students will need a flute in good working order and a music stand. Instruments may be rented locally from Belle Air Music or purchased from many of the music stores in town. Instruments can sometimes be purchased from other students as they look to upgrade.

If you have an instrument that needs some work before it can be played, the instrument techs at Music Aid should be able to help.

REHEARSAL SCHEDULING

At the time of writing, Senior rehearsals are held on Tuesday evenings; Junior on Wednesday.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Rehearsals are very informal. The goal of the ensemble rehearsals is to help the students learn to play as a group, as ensemble playing involves a very different skill set than that used for solo playing. The rehearsals allow the students to work with other flutists at a comparable level, as well as allowing the students to make contact with musicians from other areas of the city.
